PUBLIC HOUSING

The Charleston County Housing and Redevelopment Authority’s Public Housing Department works hard to honor our mission “to provide affordable housing and assist in providing economic opportunities to the low-income citizens of Charleston County.” With a staff of four, we oversee the management and operations of 399 one, three, and four bedroom housing units (143 single-family homes and 256 elderly residences) Our single family homes are located in 50 different subdivisions throughout Charleston County.Public Housing serves an average of 508 families annually.

Providing quality customer service and developing a close relationship with our residents are keys to accomplishing our goal.

HOURS OF OPERATION:

Office hours are from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Every Wednesday, the Office closes at 12 Noon to the public.

Single Family Housing

CCHRA has 143 single-family homes throughout Charleston County from Awendaw to Mt. Pleasant, SC. Currently, however, we are not accepting new applications for single families. Acceptance of new applications for single families will be announced here and in local area newspapers.

MANDATORY APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Upon receiving notification that your name has come to the top of the waiting list, you must present the following documentation:
Picture I.D.
Birth certificate
Social Security card
Current print-out from your SSI/Social Security documenting benefits
Retirement Benefits (if applicable)
Veterans Benefits (if applicable)
Pension Benefits (if applicable)
Your last bank statement (this includes Savings, Checking, Money Market Accounts, etc.)
Emergency contact person
$200 Security Deposit MUST BE PAID IN FULL BEFORE lease signing and move-in.
